Pianist, performer, and vocal coach with over five decades of professional experience.

About Me
I am a pianist, performer, and vocal coach with over five decades of professional experience. I began studying piano at age five and was performing publicly from an early age.
My training includes studies at the Peabody Conservatory, the Manhattan School of Music, and The Juilliard School. Over the years, I have worked extensively as a performer, accompanist, coach, and teacher, collaborating with artists across classical, theatrical, and contemporary worlds—including Sting, Jessye Norman, and Harvey Fierstein.
My performance work has included venues such as Carnegie Hall and Town Hall, along with international engagements and collaborations across classical, theatrical, and contemporary music. My work has been reviewed in New York and European publications.

Teaching has been a central part of my musical life. I have taught private piano and vocal students for many years and have led group classes and workshops for teens and adults, including programs at the Jazz School in Berkeley, the Learning Annex (“Just Gotta Sing”), and Little Opera in San Francisco.
What matters most to me is helping students develop musical understanding, expressive freedom, and trust in their own instincts. I bring a conservatory-level foundation, but my teaching style is human, adaptable, and rooted in real musical experience.
I currently teach private students in New York City and online.
I have known Ken Helman for many years as a collaborator, musical director, educator, and accompanist. His professional abilities are wide-ranging and operate at a very high level. Ken collaborates exceptionally well and brings clarity, depth, and leadership to the work.

How I Teach
I teach music as a living, expressive language—not a mechanical skill set.
My work is grounded in solid technique and musicianship, but always in service of musical meaning, communication, and personal growth. Whether you are returning to music after many years, refining professional skills, or seeking a deeper relationship to your instrument or voice, lessons are shaped around who you are and what you want to express.
When I began my piano studies at five years old, my teacher kept a twelve-inch ebony stick at the ready, used to thwack the offending finger when a wrong note was played.
Teaching methods—and our understanding of how people learn—have changed a great deal since then. My own approach is grounded in clarity, encouragement, and curiosity rather than fear or correction for its own sake. I believe students learn best when they feel supported, engaged, and invited into the process.
Lessons are focused, supportive, and often exploratory. We work on repertoire, technique, and musicianship, but also on listening, musical intelligence, confidence, and performance readiness. I adjust pacing and approach depending on the student—there is no one-size-fits-all method.

My Clients
I especially enjoy working with:
-
Adult learners and returning musicians
-
Singers, actors, and performers
-
Students who want depth rather than speed
-
Those seeking musical growth without pressure or rigidity
My goal is not just improvement, but clarity, confidence, and enjoyment—so music becomes something you inhabit, not something you struggle against.

When I went to study with Ken as an absolute beginner, I thought I was simply there to learn how to sing. Over time, I realized I was really learning how to perform — how to transmit feeling and emotion through the joy of music. In doing so, I discovered a passion I continue to embrace.
